The Premier League is set to hit Sheffield on Thursday night and ahead of that we take a look back at one of the classic ties that has taken place previously at the now known as FlyDSA Arena in the steel city.
Michael van Gerwen is known for hitting some of the highest averages especially in the Premier League with his record coming over Michael Smith in the same year as well as this throwback.
This one came against Robert Thornton when Van Gerwen produced a ruthless 117.95 average against 'The Thorn'. It ended up being a 6-2 victory for 'Mighty Mike' in one of the earliest examples of just how good he is.
