Benito van de Pas has reached the quarter finals of the 2017 World Grand Prix. 'Big Ben' dropped just two legs in a 3-0 trashing of Gerwyn Price.
Van de Pas got off to the better start as he hit his starting doubles better, which allowed him to take the first set without losing a leg. Both players hit their first 180’s in set two, and it was again the Dutchman who capitalized in every leg to make it six legs on the bounce and claim a 2-0 lead.
The third set saw ‘The Iceman’ up his game as he finally took his first couple of legs. but strong finishes of 86 and 100 from ‘Big Ben’ assured Van de Pas remained in contention for the set. The Welshman got one dart at Tops to extend the match to a fourth set, but saw his attempt end up way higher than he had intended. Van de Pas stepped up to hit the same target and book his place in the quarter finals.
The world number fourteen averaged over 95 in a strong display. He now faces either Richard North or Simon Whitlock.
