Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld once again claimed the World Cup of Darts this past weekend defeating Scotland's pairing of Peter Wright & Gary Anderson in the final.
Both players showed themselves to be class at the format throughout including Van Gerwen who had the second overall average for the tournament in a singles tie. He spoke afterwards saying that despite the standard being high, no one could touch them.
MVG went on to say that the difference was that they put pressure on their opponents and even when there was a bit of pressure they stood up to it with the way they finished.
“It feels amazing to win the World Cup for a second year in a row alongside such a great player in Raymond,” said Van Gerwen, wbo was in imperious form once again.
“The standard was really high this year but no one could touch us.
“If you don’t play as a team then you can’t win this tournament and we felt good playing alongside each other all the way through.
“We put pressure on every opponent we had, whether it was Scotland or Gibraltar, we did the right thing and didn’t make any mistakes. “Even when we were put under a little bit of pressure in the final we stood up to it with unbelievable finishing.”
