Michael van Gerwen is determined to finally add the Champions League of Darts to his collection and fill the empty space he has revealed this week.

Van Gerwen is a former finalist in the event but it is one of the few he has not won. Despite being determined to claim it, he has said he won’t lose sleep over not winning it but has a space for the trophy. “I don’t lose sleep over not winning it but it would be nice to complete my collection – there is a space in my trophy cabinet for this trophy,” said the Dutch star. “I was runner-up to Phil Taylor two years ago and last year was a bit of a disaster for me so I am really determined to put it right and win the title. “I’ve had a nice break with my family but now it is back to business and this tournament for me is the start of the big run of big events up to the World Championship. “This is the time of year you need to be at your best and I am fully focused on winning as much as I can for the next few months. That starts in Brighton.”
