The match of quarter-finals saw Michael van Gerwen take on Australian favourite Whitlock, with the Dutch ace winning through despite trailing 8-4 after twelve legs.

Whitlock missed four darts to lead 9-7, and was punished by Van Gerwen who hit double 19 to level the match (8-8). The Dutchman then threw back-to-back 17-dart legs to complete his comeback.
ā€œI missed too many shots at doubles early on in the match and gave him the chance to take control,ā€ said Van Gerwen who finished the match with a 37% success rate on the doubles.
ā€œThe crowd were with him tonight and I have to take that on the chin but it’s annoying when they don’t support me,ā€ joked the 29-year-old.
ā€œTonight was tough and I need to be better on Sunday and not make as many mistakes but I will be ready.ā€
