Van Gerwen withdraws from Pro Tour double header in Wigan after below-par performance in Premier League

Michael van Gerwen has withdrawn from the two Players Championship events in Wigan this weekend, sources have told Dartsnews.
The 29-year-old Dutchman played in Nottingham on Thursday evening for the sixth round of the Premier League Darts. The intention was to travel to Wigan on Friday for the Pro Tour double header, but Van Gerwen decided to go home. The reason for his withdrawal is not confirmed. Van Gerwen against Gerwyn Price on Thursday evening. The world number one was even averaging below 80 after four legs. However the three-time world champion managed to increase his average to 96 and beat Price with 7-2. As a result, 'MvG' in the Premier League Darts as James Wade was beaten by Mensur Suljovic.

- I dont like individuals or crowds trying to put any player off when they are trying to check out, how anyone can think its okay for the crowd to whistle or shout as someone is throwing for a double is beyond me but it does seem to have become part and parcel of the modern game. I no longer play now, darts is as good as dead at a local level round my way but when i did play many years ago, no matter how intense the rivalry you never shouted out or whistled when an opponent from the other team was throwing for a double.Mysstree17-11-2024
