The World Championship is coming up thick and fast with the showpiece event at the Alexandra Palace kicking off in only a weeks time and Wayne Mardle, one of the main pundits for Sky Sports and one of the best known players and minds in the game has cast his eye over the first round ties to give his best watches.
First one he picked was a potential cracker between Dimitri van den Bergh and Stephen Bunting and 'Hawaii 501' had this to say about the tie
'I make Stephen favourite as he is playing well again, but Dimitri is the World Youth champion and averaged 100 in doing so against Josh Payne.
It is time for Dimitri to kick on. He sort of promised this last year and fell by the wayside a little bit, but it looks like he has started to recapture a bit of form, just at the right time.
Following that he picked one of the real stand out clashes of the first round between Phil Taylor with Mardle saying that 'he will not get it all his own way against Chris Dobey' and that he needs to be wary and not be 'a little bit flaky early on' with Mardle going as far as saying Dobey could be a 'banana skin' for the Power.
Another banana skin is for Gary Anderson, he will play either Luke Humphries or Jeff Smith and Mardle says that 'Gary will have a difficult game, no matter who wins the preliminary round match' and if Luke is as good as Cross 'we are in for a treat'.
A potential outsider and a shock could be Zoran Lerchbacher according to Mardle who he believes is 'going to win' and he will be 'underestimated' against Mervyn King which could get him the victory.
One that Mardle thinks could have any outcome is Keegan Brown vs James Wade with Mardle warning viewers not to have a bet as neither player is currently at their best which could mean anything could happen on the night.
Finally Hawaii 501 ended speaking about Peter Wright vs Diogo Portela with Mardle warning of the threat Portela will have and he believes like Lerchbacher people will 'totally underestimate' the Brazilian but they should do so at their peril.
