55-year-old Wayne Warren became the third player to knock a seed out of the 2018 BDO World Championship, as he defeated seventh seed Wesley Harms 3-1.

The Welshman won his first ever game at the Lakeside with a 95.07 average, ensuring a third successive first round loss for two-time semi-finalist Harms. It was Warren who claimed the first set in a decider, before Harms bounced back by winning the second set 3-0. Warren then threw seven perfect darts in the third set, but had to settle for a 14-darter. Harms kept the pressure up, but a superb 101 checkout produced wild celebrations as the Glamorgan man went 2-1 up.
Harms, reinvigorated after a tough couple of years, replied in the fourth set with a 101 checkout of his own. But, as good as he was, he could not touch Warren. The elder of the pair averaged a brilliant 109 in the last set, opening with a 12-darter and finishing in style to round off the win. Warren will play another Dutchman in the second round, with Willem Mandigers his next opponent.
