Jim Williams relieved to get through tough Lakeside first round tie

Jim Williams is into the second round of the 2019 BDO World Championship.

The Welshman will remain at the Lakeside for the time being after . Williams averaged 92, but it was tough going against the Belgian. After losing the first set 3-0, the third seed bounced back. And though Janssen was able to forced a deciding set, Williams powered through to set up a meeting with compatriot Dean Reynolds. In a post-match interview with the BDO, the 34-year-old admitted the weight of expectation was sometimes tough to bear. "Mentally, it was such a tough match," said Williams. "You come (here), and people say 'Jim, you're going to do well this year'. "When you're up there, and trying so hard, it all seems to go against you - there's so much pressure on your shoulders. But to get through is great." The Powys ace was full of praise for his vanquished first round opponent. "He's fantastic. He doesn't do a lot of the tour, but when he does he always makes a big impact. The last two times we've played each other, he's beaten me!"
