Michael van Gerwen booked a hard-fought win to qualify for the second round at the fourth Players Championship event on Sunday afternoon.

The Dutchman battled past Andy Boulton, who missed a good opportunity to bring the world number one in more troubles. After a 4-1 lead for Van Gerwen in the beginning, Boulton won three legs on the spin to make 4-4.
However he missed three darts to take-over the lead. Van Gerwen punished him and claimed a 6-4 won. While Van Gerwen went through, there were defeats for Daryl Gurney and Dave Chisnall, with the latter losing to Toni Alcinas. Gurney was beaten by Gavin Carlin after a leg-decider.
Ian White impressed with a 6-3 victory over Jan Dekker with 107 average. Peter Wright demolished Wayne Jones 6-1, while James Wade, Krzysztof Ratajski and Glen Durrant all survived leg-deciders to move into the second round.
