Checking the match odds (2017 Matchplay) it looks like Taylor was about 20/1 if you backed him in each game and rolled your winnings on. I'd say he was 16/1 or so with the books before the off. Van Gerwen was rampant at that point, having won almost every TV major for two years so that was the only game where Taylor was underdog (almost 4/1 for that match)
