Connor Scutt headed into this year’s WDF Lakeside World Championship as the pre-tournament favourite but will be heading home early with Canadian ace, Shawn Burt dumping him out. He will now face Thibault Tricole.
Burt made a superb start hitting a 93 checkout to hold throw. Scutt hit back with a 76 checkout to hold himself. This saw him pin double 18 as he upped his game. He hit a 180 and followed it up by missing 104.
But Burt hit a 102 checkout to force a decider. He chased round the board but pinned double three to seal the set.
To begin the second set, he hit double 10 to lead 1-0. Scutt hit back with a 114 checkout to level up at 1-1. But Burt sealed it on double five.
While, Dave Parletti is through to the second round of the 2022 WDF Lakeside World Championship and will face Andy Baetens after seeing off Shaun McDonald in a 2-1 win defying an opening set whitewash.
McDonald was superb in the opening set with a 95 checkout to start before sweeping through to go halfway to the second round but Parletti finally started to wake up and despite two 180’s in a leg, Parletti pounced after McDonald couldn’t go 1-0 up and hit a 60 checkout.
This revived his fortunes and he sealed the sport with a 106 checkout to level up. He hit a pivotal 140 and left 54 but McDonald hit 109 to hold throw.
Parletti hit a no look 180 to leave 53 and pinned double 18. This put him into another gear again as he hit two 140’s in a leg but he missed 161 on the bull.
McDonald came back but was wild on double seven for an 86 checkout. Parletti missed 49 though and McDonald came back only to not get another shot at 86.
‘The Architect’ sealed double four to make it 2-1. He missed 88 on the bull for the match but returned as McDonald missed 60 on double 10 for the decider. Parletti returned for double 16 to claim it.
Veronika Ihasz also produced one of the performances of the Ladies’ draw so far in seeing off Paula Murphy in straight sets producing a highly polished display.
Ihasz began with a 92 checkout to break and a 69 checkout saw her go one away from the opening set. She missed 74 for the set but Murphy couldn’t take advantage which allowed Ihasz back to seal it.
Ihasz missed 130 on the bull for a hold but came back for double eight to lead with a hold and went one away on double eight. A 171 and double 20 saw her seal it.
