There is continued Belgian brilliance at the 2024 WDF Lakeside World Championship and the opponent of Aileen de Graaf is now set as the action continues on Sunday afternoon.
Mayumi Ouchi made it two from two for Japanese hopes with Jan Matsuda also through from his opener. She defeated Lorraine Hyde in the opening round with 'The Wave Rider' sailing into Round Two with a 2-1 sets win.
Ouchi went ahead early and produced the clutch finishes which enabled her to seal the opening set. She hit 69 and 70 to claim it 3-1. But back came Hyde who was one leg away from being eliminated. The Scot showed grit though as she took out 60 and 115 en route to winning the second set.
But this prompted one final set of action. Ouchi upped her level though and sealed it 3-0 albeit Hyde missed vital darts on her own throw to remain involved and also the same when Ouchi finally fell over the line. Next up is the second seed.
While Sybren Gijbels is also through completing a terrific turnaround against Kevin Luke. He completes a hat-trick of Belgian wins this week. Brian Raman and Francois Schweyen are also through, they face off in the Last 16.
Kevin Luke opened up proceedings taking the first set 3-1. But Gijbels started to find his feet on the Lakeside stage and took it to a deciding set. He threw three 180's as he took the second set also 3-1. It went to the deciding leg and Gijbels missed 106 for it after starting off with a 180 but after Luke missed a chance at 67, Gijbels hit double 20 last dart in hand to seal the win.
Next up for the Belgian you may ask is the methodical German, Liam Maendl-Lawrance with Jason Brandon, the 11th seed lurking also in their section.
