McEwan seals marathon win over Warburton, Hurrell seals whitewash win over De Vreede

Jim McEwan is through with a nail-biting win at the 2022 WDF Lakeside World Championship sealing a marathon win over Mike Warburton 3-2.

McEwan averaged 84 and will now face Neil Duff in the Quarter-Finals after seeing off Nick Fullwell earlier this afternoon.

It was a superb start for Warburton who held throw but McEwan levelled up on double four. Warburton missed a 96 checkout to hold throw and McEwan pounced on double 20 to go one away from the set which he took.

Two 180’s in a leg from Warburton followed by 41 saw the Welshman seal an opening break and he doubled his lead on double 20 to go one away and an 80 checkout saw Warburton claim the set.

He missed an 84 checkout but came back for double six en route to make it 2-0. A 58 checkout to make it 3-0 and make it 2-1.

Warburton missed multiple chances for a break to go one away and McEwan hit double four to make it 2-1. An 82 checkout saw McEwan send it all the way sets wise.

He began the final set with a 118 checkout to break and consolidated on double 20 before finally sealing it on double 20.

While James Hurrell sealed a comprehensive win over Ryan de Vreede with a 126 checkout thrown in during the tie averaging just shy of 90.

Hurrell hit 126 on the bull to seal the opening set 3-1. A 180 and 174 saw De Vreede take aim at an opening hold which he sealed on double eight. Hurrell levelled up on double 18 and hit 58 to go one away from a two sets lead.

De Vreede broke throw to go one away from a 1-1 sets but he missed a set dart and Hurrell came back for double 20 and made it 2-0.

De Vreede hit a 51 checkout to lead 1-0 with a break in set two. Both hit 180’s in a leg on the Dutchman’s throw but a 134 to leave 128 saw De Vreede first to a finish. He left 50 but missed darts for a 2-0 lead and Hurrell levelled at 1-1.

A 171 to leave 132 saw Hurrell on his way to a hold on double 20 to make it 2-1. De Vreede missed 67 for 2-2 and Hurrell hit double nine.
