The DPFL tournament, part of the WDF circuit, produced a bizarre moment this weekend when an American player accidentally fell from the stage during the pairs final.
The deciding clash of the Capped 130 doubles event was an all-American affair, with Jim Widmayer — a multiple-time BDO and WDF World Championship competitor — teaming up with Albert Anstey Jr. against fellow former Lakeside participant Kevin Luke and his partner Robert Main.
With the score at 4–2, Main had the chance to keep the match alive by checking out on double five. But after missing, the American stumbled awkwardly on his way back from the board and tumbled straight off the stage — to the shock of both the crowd and the other players.
Referee Owen Binks handled the situation with a touch of comedy, waiting to make sure Main was still in one piece before calmly calling “game shot” to confirm the leg.
Thankfully, the incident looked worse than it was. Main was quickly able to clamber back onto the oche and continue the match, though the momentum stayed with Anstey Jr. and Widmayer, who went on to close out a 5–2 victory.
The remarkable clip of Main’s mishap has already begun circulating widely online — and you can watch the moment yourself below.
