2022 World Seniors Darts Championship Final Preview - Martin Adams v Robert Thornton

24 players came, only two remain at the 2022 World Seniors Darts Championship with two of the favourites for the title rising to the occasion and making it to the final at the iconic Circus Tavern.

Martin Adams will aim to add a fourth World title this evening to go alongside his three prior BDO crowns with the 65-year-old showing no signs of slowing down.

One of the most prepared players coming into the tournament having plied his trade on the Online Live League and various other tournaments during lockdown as well as qualifying for Lakeside in April - he has lived up to his billing.

Coming in during the second round, 'Wolfie' saw off Richie Howson in an utterly sublime masterclass of finishing and followed that up with a scrappy win over Larry Butler on Saturday evening.

This was followed with a 4-2 win over Terry Jenkins and while he hasn't had to produce the exploits he showed against 'The Owl', he may have to with a Thorn firmly in his side in the final.

Like Adams, Robert Thornton has been in action even more recently than Adams playing at Q-School as a player still attempting to return to the PDC Tour.

He has proven this weekend that he still has the game to compete on that side of the darting divide.

Breezing past Bob Anderson, Trina Gulliver and Dave Prins with 94, 92 and 91 averages, he only lost sets to Kevin Painter in the semi-finals such has been the brilliance of the multiple major champion.

He has never been a World Champion unlike a lot of the field and while still stating his ambitions to return to the top of the game, a nice addition to his mantlepiece in the form of the stunning trophy will not go amiss.

Two legends collide over the best of nine sets with only one victor set to leave Purfleet with the trophy. Who will claim it? It's Tungsten Time for one last hoorah at the Circus Tavern.
