Chris Mason is into the second round at the 2025 World Seniors Darts Championship. The 55-year-old was made to work for it, but eventually prevailed 3-1 over Mark Dudbridge on Thursday night at the iconic Circus Tavern in Purfleet.

"I don't know how to feel. Because in spells, I felt brilliant," reflected Mason when speaking to the media post-match. "I do have spells where I get everything I want and then I just go missing. I can't put my finger on what I'm doing different when I do go missing."

During the pomp of his career, Mason reached the World Darts Championship semi-final on two separate occasions in 1999 and 2000, plus was a World Matchplay semifinalist in 1998. The Englishman initially retired from the professional circuit back in 2011 when he handed in his PDC Tour Card. After returning to competitive action on the Seniors Tour over the last few years though, it now seems Mason is ready to make a final decision on permanent retirement from the sport.

"I'd hoped I'd go up there and play with a bit of freedom," he laughs. "I obviously retired a long time ago, but I came back because I wanted to support this more than anything. I didn't do this for me. But when I did start practicing I thought 'I can still do this'. But yeah, It's not quite worked out, but then neither did my career!"

Before the curtain is called on Mason's career for the final time, he faces defending World Seniors Darts champion John Henderson in the second round. A challenge Mason is very much looking forward to. "John's still a proper dart player," Mason previews. "Can I make it a match and win a few sets I don't know, but I'm going to enjoy it. I love John Henderson to bits and he's still massively relevant. He's the current champion and what a chance to go up there and have some fun with him."
