John Henderson produced in what was an epic tie-break thriller in the World Seniors Darts Masters final winning 6-5 over his good friend Robert Thornton. Aside from the Champion of Champions, Henderson has swept aside all in front of him in terms of titles this season.
Henderson spoke afterwards about what has changed in his game and it is partly just a winning mentality and not giving up when the going gets tough.
"It's unbelievable. Playing a good friend of mine, it's never easy. But just to get over the line was fantastic. I felt I struggled early doors and Robert got on top of me but I just plugged in what I've been doing all week and I'm just glad to get over the line," said Henderson to Online Darts.
"Something I've gained in my game recently is just don't give up. Maybe two three years ago I would've given up there and Robert would've steamrolled over me. I've just found something now, I've got the will to win now. I've got the winning mentality. It's just the case of not giving up. Robert made a couple of mistakes, let me in and I just took advantage of it."
But while others have shirked a PDC return in order to defend said titles, Henderson is not one of them with his goal always being to get back on the tour. Something he has achieved at times this year due to the Challenge Tour and he will only return to the WSDT in event of not doing so.
"We've got Q-School so I can't say too much about what's going to happen until Q-School. Obviously regaining my Tour Card is a priority for me but if not, I've still got the Seniors. I'm in a good place at the moment with my game. I love it, I'm playing with a smile on my face again."
