Saturday afternoon, John Henderson, Lisa Ashton, Jim Long and Mark Dudbridge qualified for the quarterfinals at the World Seniors Darts Championship. The evening session will reveal which four players will join them.
We begin the evening session with two players who were active in Premier League Darts not too long ago. Robert Thornton competed in the Premier League in 2013, 2014 and 2016 and is currently considered the two-time senior world champion. Andy Hamilton made his appearance in the prestigious darts competition in 2012 and 2013.
Meanwhile, both no longer hold PDC Tour Cards and play on the senior circuit, among other things. Thornton won 3-1 in sets over Martyn Turner in the first round of the World Seniors Darts Championship. Hamilton has not yet had to play a match. 'The Hammer' received a last-minute bye because Tony O'Shea had to pull out injured.
The second match of the evening is between Paul Hogan and former WDF world champion Neil Duff. They defeated Terry Jenkins (3-1) and Richard-Eirig Rowlands (3-2) respectively in the previous round.
Many had hoped that Phil Taylor would be in action on Saturday night, but 'The Power' surprisingly lost to Manfred Bilderl in the first round, putting an end to the World Championship career of 'The Power', who will quit darts for good after this season. Bilderl will face Chris Mason in his second match, who was too strong for Darryl Fitton 3-1 in sets.
Dessert of the evening will be provided by Richie Burnett and Colin McGarry. The latter surprisingly won 3-1 in sets over title favorite Leonard Gates in the opening round. Burnett in turn saw off Keith Deller (3-1).
