Nathan Aspinall will take on Michael Smith later in the first confirmed semi-final at 2020 Masters in Milton Keynes after edging past Jonny Clayton in a 10-8 win.

Aspinall had some trouble getting over the line squandering multiple match darts from 9-5 up but did so in the end hitting a 95 average and 52 percent on doubles en route.

Clayton looked good to begin the tie hitting a 10-darter to go 2-1 up in the early going but Aspinall broke back to reduce the deficit to 3-2. The former’s average was up at 102 though and he was looking good.

Despite that, the script got flipped when they returned from the break. Aspinall hit three legs on the spin to hit the front at 4-3 up and he continued his dominant revival going 6-4 up at the second break with 6/9 on his doubles.

Clayton took out 104 to claw it back to 6-5 and keep himself in it but that seemed to be a consolation as Aspinall streaked to a 9-5 lead with his superb doubling continuing.

This is when his short term problems arose though as he missed double 20 for a 154 checkout for the win and Clayton stayed alive at 9-6 behind and he squandered four more match darts allowing the latter to break. He held his throw but Aspinall still edge through in the end staving off late worries.
