Bobby George looks back on classic 1980 World Championship final with Eric Bristow: "It changed the game, me and Eric in that final"
It is nearly 40 years since one of the most talked about World Championship finals in history between Eric Bristow and Bobby George.
George spoke in a recent interview as part of Weekly Dartscast's Darts Legends series about how it was a game which changed it all and what was going through his head when taking on 'The Crafty Cockney'.
"It was a good final. I had my chances but I didn't take it and Eric took his chance and got it. But I didn't play any different to if I was to play in the Monday League, I played to win. If you don't take your chances, you don't win in our sport," said George to Weekly Dartscast.
"He owed me a couple because I beat him a few times in tournaments but he said but I beat you when it counted, the big one. He had to rub that in my nose, I wasn't disappointed it was my own fault."
"It changed the game, me and Eric in that final. Before that the crowd was very quiet. They were singing Eric Bristow , Bobby George. We did something for the game anyway."
