With the
BDO World Darts Championship not taking place this month due to the organisation’s demise, DartsNews looks back at classic moments and matches throughout January from the showpiece event.
Onto the 2006 BDO World Darts Championship and it was a special one from a Dutch perspective with
Jelle Klaasen facing
Raymond van Barneveld in the final.
Klaasen successfully defeated Dennis Harbour (3-2), Mervyn King (4-2), Paul Hogan (5-4) and Shaun Greatbatch (6-3) on the way to the final. Van Barneveld saw off the likes of Gary Anderson (4-1), Tony O'Shea (5-3) and Martin Adams (6-2).
The final was then won 7-5 by Klaasen who at 21 is still the youngest World Champion and in coming through the Qualifier, he was the first player since Keith Deller in 1983 to achieve this feat.
