Keegan Brown has done it again with ‘The Needle’ dumping out Michael van Gerwen for the second time this season on the European Tour.

Van Gerwen was making his return to the European Tour but it was an unlucky one for the World Number One who lost out to Brown who takes another step closer to confirming his place at the World Matchplay. ‘Mighty Mike’ had the better of the opening exchanges; with him going 2-0 up and he extended that to 4-2 when Brown hit back.

Brown levelled it up to parity at 4-4 following that though to ask the question of MVG. It was the Isle of Wight ace though who took the lead but he was pegged back to 5-5 meaning a decider was on the cards. He left 84 after nine with MVG well back and despite missing the shot a few times to begin with, he pegged double six with his last dart in hand.

Peter Wright (97.7) 4-6 (93.43) Stephen Bunting

Wright was sent home also as he was edged out by Stephen Bunting with the number five seed added to the list of seeds to fall. Bunting had a brilliant start with ‘The Bullet’ smashing his way into a 3-1 lead but Wright followed it up by claiming two more legs to make it three a piece and put the match into anyone’s hands at this point.

Wright though missed darts with Bunting going one away at 5-3 but he himself fluffed his lines missing match darts and from there, Wright went one away. The St Helens ace finished the job though to move through in a very good win especially with seeds falling, could it be the weekend of ‘The Bullet’?

Mensur Suljovic (92.02) 6-0 (77.94) John Henderson

One seed who does remain in though is Mensur Suljovic with the Gentle whitewashing John Henderson. Henderson is known to struggle with the heat and with it supposedly in the high 60 degrees in the arena, it was always going to be a problem. It was the case with him only averaging 78 but Suljovic now moves through to face Ted Evetts on Sunday afternoon.
