Mitchell Lawrie has continued his superb progression with a second World Youth title in just under a month, this time at the Alexandra Palace with the 15-year-old Scottish sensation playing the JDC World Championship final prior to Saturday afternoon's darting action at the Palace.
Lawrie faced Kaya Baysal in the final who is also seen as a real star of the future and has also won titles at senior level on the WDF circuit like Lawrie. He has also just signed with Mac Elkin's The Sportsman Management Company stable so for both the future is very much bright.
On the big stage, Lawrie produced an 84.50 average to see off Baysal 5-2 taking out two ton plus checkouts too in the process. He also scooped the
WDF World Youth title just last month as well as reaching the senior final where he lost to Dutch ace Jimmy van Schie.
Lawrie and Baysal had to play on the JDC Tour all year to reach this point with six wins each in the rounds and a tournament average of 92.24 in the end for the champion.
Previous winners have included Luke Littler twice who wn in 2022 and 2023. The latter saw him win with a 102.62 just before he broke out with his run the following year at the PDC World Darts Championship. But going back to 2017, Rusty-Jake Rodriguez was the first champion. Jurjen van der Velde, Keane Barry and Bradly Roes followed before Littler. While Lex Paeshuyse who was touted last year as the next big darting sensation won the title last year defeating North East talent Daniel Stephenson.
Lawrie also presumably subject to qualification criteria will appear at the Winmau World Masters next month as he tests his metal against the PDC big boys as a JDC representative.
