Luke Littler has is eyes set on a second
PDC World Darts
Championship title, with the 18-year-old set to face off against Welshman David Davies
on December 21. While he awaits his second-round tie, he missed out on both Sports Personality and Young Sports Personality of the Year.
After coming runner-up to Keely Hodgkinson in the 2024
awards, he would have been hoping to take the coveted prize and adding another
achievement on his distinguished CV.
He has enjoyed a dominant 2025, beginning by becoming the
youngest darts world champion at the age of 17. He would also collect the UK
Open, World Matchplay, World Grand Prix, Grand Slam of Darts and Players
Championship Finals titles. He lost in the Premier League Darts and World
Series of Darts finals, represented his country in the World Cup of Darts and
climbed up to the world number one spot.
Due to his commitments to the ongoing World Championship, he
did not attend the event but spoke to TV Presenter Clare Balding via video link
as he discussed how different it is to be competing in it as the reigning world
champion and world number one.
"It is different. You have being a defending
champion on your mind and being world number one,” Littler stated on
BBC. “First game
I got the win and I will on Sunday to try and get another win before Christmas.
For us players we really have to focus, especially at the World Darts
Championships, but the fans bring the atmosphere. We want more fans engaging
with the sport, that’s what we want.
"There’s a few titles on the list that I’ve not ticked
off yet that I will go chasing next year, but for now all focus is on the World
Darts Championships."
Shortly after the winners were announced, Littler posted on his
Instagram a message on his story. "Thanks to everyone that voted for me tonight," he wrote. "Appreciate it and for the young SPOTY wow fair enough."
Sports Personality of the Year ended up going the way of golfer Rory McIlroy, while England and Arsenal footballer Michelle Agyemang scooped up the Young Sports Personality of the Year.
