Adrian Lewis has sealed the deal with a 10-5 victory over Rob Cross as the opening night of action at The Masters in Milton Keynes comes to an end.

Lewis and Cross weren’t at their best by any means and it became a hard fought battle in the end with both average in the mid 80’s but it was ‘Jackpot’ who came out on top as he sets up a tie with Michael Smith.

This scrappy nature was evidenced early on with Lewis nudging in front at 3-2 up despite 17 missed darts of doubles and neither player getting into top gear.

The Stoke on Trent ace went two ahead from there pinning double 10 to defy a 180 from Cross and go 4-2 up. Cross closed the gap from there to 4-5 but this was again wasted with Lewis hitting double six to regain a two leg cushion at the next interval 6-4.

‘Jackpot’ continued his foothold in the match going 8-4 up with a 60 checkout despite still having an average of just 84.

Cross made it 8-5 but Lewis went one away from there hitting double eight to ask the final question of the former. The World Matchplay champion didn’t answer though and Lewis claimed it, both though will know that they have better games in them.

In the case of Lewis, he will know that he will have to up his game on Sunday when he faces Michael Smith who was quality to start off the night.
