Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson always know how to put on a show.

With four world titles between them, the pair have plenty of talent. It normally reflects in some pretty explosive contests. The highest profile of them all was the 2017 World Championship final, which van Gerwen won. The two met three times in the Premier League in 2017. On all three occasions, both averaged more than 100. They meet in the Premier League in Newcastle on Thursday. And the Dutch ace has promised yet another classic meeting – plus a better showing than during his defeat to Peter Wright in Cardiff.

“Last week was a disappointing result against Peter,” said van Gerwen.

“Especially as I feel it was a game I should have won. I had enough chances but I missed too many doubles and he hit the right things at the right times so all credit is to him.

Mighty Mike has set his sights on returning to winning ways. But he has a healthy respect for the Flying Scotsman.

Van Gerwen said: “I know I’m not going to win every single game in the Premier League. It is almost impossible but after losing I like to bouce back with a good win.

“That won’t be easy against Gary but it is what I will try to do. We always have good matches and it is one of the games that the fans want to see. It will be fast and a very good standard and I’m really looking forward to a great match.”
