Devon Petersen has sadly been the victim of some racial abuse following a match on the
MODUS Super Series the South African darter has revealed.
Petersen won 4-3 over
Noa-Lynn van Leuven on the MODUS Super Series, but an online gambler had made the bet that Petersen would win 4-2. This led the person in question to shockingly send a racist message to the "African Warrior."
''You stupid useless black c*nt,'' the racist messaging begins. ''All you had to do was beat a transgender 4-2 you useless c*nt,'' the gambler sent in a second message.
Petersen then gave a sharp response to the taunts. ''You expecting racial slurs to affect me... I pray that your life is blessed with a significant amount of wisdom and knowledge to not attempt to do this to any other person in future. When the fun stop, STOP. Gambling isn't fun and games especially if it affects you like this. Please don't message me in the future as my socials are only meant for my fans.''
The nine-time World Championship contender also explained how he shared these comments as he wanted to show his followers that darters do not receive only positive messages. ''I'm not giving this guy a platform to be slated but let me show you why social media isn't to be taken to heart especially when it's someone trying to affect you negatively," he says. "This gentleman thought calling me a Black C#@T is going to affect me but he doesn't know that in my country I'm seen as coloured. Which is mixed race and my culture has a vibrant history and our global representation is strong. Always remember you will only sink when you allow water onto your boat .....#rowyourboat."
Recently, Petersen was involved in organizing the African qualifying tournament for the World Darts Championship. South African Cameron Carolissen secured a starting spot for the tournament at Alexandra Palace by dealing with Peter Wachiuri (8-7) from Kenya in an exciting match.
