Luke Littler got the ultimate chance to play in front of his home crowd in Warrington, but unfortunately was upstaged by his rival Luke Humphries in the headline match at MODUS A Night at the Darts. The world number one averaged 106.79 in a 8-6 win over Littler, who himself averaged 105.56.
On the way to the victory, Humphries took out a highest checkout of 156, hit 9 maximums in a scintillating performance. Littler was not bad either, finding six 180's in the 14 legs. This was a similar result to the duo's clash in Northampton, with Humphries winning that matchup 8-5. Watching on was an adoring crowd, who may be seeing a glimpse into the future.
This will be great preparation between the two stars, with there being a very high chance the pair will come on a collision course in one of the upcoming major events. Both will be defending titles, with Littler looking to win back-to-back Grand Slam of Darts titles. They will then travel to south to Minehead, with Humphries looking for three Players Championship Final titles in a row. He defeated Littler 11-7 in the final last year.
Along with the top two, 'Rapid' Ricky Evans took to the stage to face off against the two-time major champion Robert Thornton. The Englishman came out with the bragging rights, winning 3-1 against his Scottish opponent. This event will be good preparation for Evans, who is set to complete in the final three majors of the year after successfully qualifying for the Grand Slam of Darts through the Tour Card qualifiers.
There was also a third encounter in Warrington, with WDF stars Darryl Fitton and Tony O'Shea clashing in between the other match. It was Fitton who came out as a 3-0 winner, winning the Stockport derby.
