Adrian Lewis will soon be making his comeback in competition. The two-time world champion has announced that he will participate in a week of play on the MODUS Super Series in May.
Lewis made his announcement in a video on the X channel of the online darts competition. "Hello, I'm Adrian Lewis, two-time back-to-back PDC world darts champion. I'm looking forward to playing in the Modus Super Series sometime in May, so stay tuned," he revealed.
It will be Lewis' first competitive appearance since he temporarily paused from darts in April 2023. 'Jackpot' caused a huge shock at the time by putting his career on hold. "After more than 20 years, I feel I need a break from the professional circuit. Huge thanks to my fans and sponsors for the support,'' Lewis wrote at the time.
It later turned out that more was at play in the background. Lewis' wife Sarah was struggling with an incurable kidney disease, while together they also have a daughter with autism who requires a lot of care. Lewis did not want to leave that care to his wife alone. Last year Lewis, who did do some exhibitions in between, already hinted cautiously at a return to darts. He signed a contract with MODUS Darts, a leading management in professional darts. 'Jackpot' expressed his desire to discover this year whether he is ready to return to the PDC circuit in 2026.
PDC boss Barry Hearn previously revealed that Lewis need not count on preferential treatment upon a return. “It’s not about what you used to do – it’s about what you can do," Hearn said. “Does he have to go through Q School? Yeah. We’d welcome him back with open arms. He’s a great lad and a great player. He has had his own personal problems. Which he has to come to terms with. But they are not our problems, they are his problems and it is up to him to solve them.”
