As the PDC ProTour season is due to start in the coming weeks, there will be many players joining the annuls of the tour but many will in fact be leaving. 20 in all won't be returning from the 128 who played last season.
The PDC brought Richard Ashdown on board to dissect some of the leading statistics of the new season as we look ahead to the Players Championship season.
Among the statistics pointed out by Ashdown include the five familiar names that are gone for the first time in 14 years. Steve Beaton has decided to leave the tour, he will instead play MODUS Super Series and World Seniors in a similar vein to Simon Whitlock, Vincent van der Voort and Mervyn King albeit two out of the three attempted to return at Q-School. A total of 31 players have lost their Tour Cards with 23 attempting but failing to make it through Q-School.
Adrian Lewis also won't return with the two-time World Champion taking his sabbatical. Rowby-John Rodriguez has held a Tour Card in ten out of the last 11 years, Jamie Hughes since 2019 and Adam gawlas since 2021 who didn't regain them. Geert Nentjes and Ronny Huybrechts also left the tour.
20 players won't return in 2025 with Keegan Brown ending a run of 13 years, Josh Payne missed on making it 12 seasons on the ProTour. While Jeffrey de Zwaan's 10 year career at the top ceases.
Lee Evans, Callum Goffin, Graham Hall, Daniel Klose, Robbie Knops, Jacques Labre, Arron Monk, Christian Perez, Owen Roelofs, Adam Smith-Neale, Jeffrey Sparidaans, Danny van Trijp, Graham Usher and Jurjen van der Velde also didn't make it. While Leighton Bennett, Paul Krohne and Pascal Rupprecht have been banned or decided to leave.
Certainly a season of change on the PDC Tour with Beau Greaves also leading the Challenge Tour meaning we will likely get new players from the Challenge Tour making up the numbers over usual faces.
Yesterday, we caught up with Steve Beaton as he plays his last Players Championship event as a PDC Tour Card holder.
