‘The Flying Scotsman’
Gary Anderson came from 5-4 down to defeat
Simon Whitlock 10-5 and set up a semi-final with James Wade tomorrow in Perth. The former 2x back-to-back World Champion hit some outstanding darts and finished off with 5 180’s, 48% on the doubles and a 102 average to boot.
Anderson started brilliantly and despite Whitlock hitting a 180, The Flying Scotsman broke to lead 1-0. Whitlock fired back though and took out 115 to break straight back. Anderson though got back to back legs to lead 3-1 and show his class. Whitlock held in the following leg with two double tops to go 3-2 behind. With Anderson missing a 156, The Wizard hit D4 for parity at 3-3.
They went into the interval with 5 breaks of throw in the opening seven legs with Anderson leading 4-3. The breaks of throw continued with Whitlock hitting 68 on D2 to make it 4-4 with Anderson way back but Whitlock held his throw hitting a 25 checkout on D8 for a 5-4 lead.
Despite looking like he was on the edge of losing the leg, Anderson hit back with a 110 for 5-5 and he continued his resurgence pinning D16 for a break of throw at 6-5 when Whitlock missed D13 for a 146 checkout.
Anderson hit back to back 13 darters pinning D6 to make it 7-5. He missed D12 to make it 8-5 and Whitlock missed three darts at D10 which meant Anderson could come back to hit D2 and make it 8-5.
He nearly hit a 170 checkout but came back to hit D2 again to make it 9-5 and go one away. Anderson finished it off in style with a 144 checkout to win 10-5.
