Aspinall wins first PDC major title with victory over Cross at the UK Open

Nathan Aspinall has become the latest new PDC major champion seeing off Rob Cross at the UK Open to continue an amazing rise.

Aspinall sealed the deal with a 170 checkout to cap off a brilliant tournament for the Stockport ace. ‘The Asp’ continues a rise that has seen him lose his tour card and be in the darting doldrums to a World Championship run and now a first major title.

It was quite level at the start with Aspinall getting in front with a 77 checkout to make it 3-2 with 98 average and 3/3 on the doubles. The same can be said for the next session with him being 6-4 despite Cross finding some form to go one behind.

Cross made it 6-5 at the next break but didn’t have any more resistance. At the next break, Aspinall was 10-5 up only needing one more leg for the title with a late comeback needed from Cross. There was nothing in the tank left though and the Asp hit the maximum finish to secure a shock title win.
