Cross edges out Smith to set up final with Aspinall at UK Open

Rob Cross is through to the UK Open final after seeing off Michael Smith in a similar semi-final than Nathan Aspinall.

Cross was leading easily but nearly let it slip late on, despite that though ‘Voltage’ is into the final. He hit three 180’s and multiple ton plus finishes of 146, 127 and 120. He averaged less than Smith but hit the doubles when it mattered to set up the final. This showed with 55% on his doubles throughout the contest. He started his charge early going three-nil up with ease including a brilliant 120 checkout. Smith pegged him back to 3-2 though by the first break. Cross then surged to 6-4 lead on the next break with 60% on his doubles as he aimed to go ahead towards the win. He furthered his ambitions by hitting a 127 checkout to go 7-4 up. He went 10-4 up to go within one of a win but he had to survive a late comeback. It ended up 11-7 in the end to ‘Voltage’ as Smith played one game too many with his injury. for more information about the UK Open including the schedule, prize fund breakdown, TV coverage and format.
