Glen Durrant Lakeside 2017

Glen Durrant will compete in his second consecutive Lakeside final following a 6-2 defeat of Scott Waites.

Defending champion Durrant won four sets on the bounce at a critical juncture in the match as he held off the two-time world champion.
The first set was about as easy as it got for the Middlesbrough ace. A 3-0 win in legs set him immediately on the road to victory. Waites, though, is a man who knows how to bounce back. He kicked off set two with an 11-darter, rounding things off to level the tie. But, from there, Durrant sped clear. A succession of 3-1 set victories saw him go well clear. The sixth set was wrapped up by an excellent 106 finish which left Waites in the cold.
At 5-1, the game looked like a procession. But Scotty 2 Hotty reminded Duzza that he was still there, notching another 11-darter to start the seventh set in style. Waites held out to take the set, notching up a classy 130 checkout. But the top seed was not to be denied. In the final leg, Durrant opened with seven perfect darts. A nine-darter wasn't forthcoming, but an 11-darter certainly was. An average of 96.61 and a 42% success rate on the doubles reflects a solid, if not spectacular, performance from the tournament favourite. Now Durrant takes his place in tomorrow's Lakeside final, and only Mark McGeeney or Michael Unterbuchner stands between him and glory.
