Jonny Clayton continued his darting rise by winning his first European Tour title yesterday in Graz at the Austrian Darts Open. He defeated a fellow Welshman, Gerwyn Price in the final to add to his Players Championship he won last year.
Clayton, like Max Hopp last week, could see this as a landmark moment in his career. With the Pontyberem ace qualifying for multiple major tournaments for the first time off the back of this, including the World Matchplay.
'The Ferret' spoke afterwards admitting he is chuffed to bits and that it is good to see Welsh darts back on stage with of course an all-Welsh affair in the final.
On the win he said the following: "It's my first [European Tour] title and I'm chuffed to bits," and added: "It's been a great weekend for me.
"It's been a brilliant crowd - I had to play against them all against Mensur but I got through it.
"It's nice to see Welsh darts back on stage. There are some brilliant players and we're all there to do a job."
On the potential of being part of the World Cup of Darts team with Price next month he said the following: "It's something I would really like to do so this is a big step towards that."
