Cross claimed a solid victory over Mark McGeeney in a 5-2 win despite not looking at his 100% best.
McGeeney started off the match by missing stacks of darts while sitting on a 49 checkout with Cross on 400 and this set the tone.
Despite McGeeney getting into the match eventually he couldn’t hit the doubles and was punished.
’Voltage’ hit two 180’s with an average of 87 while ‘The Gladiator’ hit two 180’s also and had an average of 79.62.
In the final game, Wright was given a real stern test by Jim Williams.
It went to a last leg decider after Snakebite missed five darts for the match.
The Scot hit a crucial 171 followed by a D4 in the decider to escape trouble.
It was evenly matched going on the averages and if he hasn’t have hit the timely trebles in the final leg, Wright could have been on the end of a shock.
