Daryl Gurney wins first major title in Dublin

'Superchin' Daryl Gurney has won his first ever major title, the World Grand Prix 2017 in Dublin. The Northern Irishman has previously got to two major semi finals but has finally won his first title defeating former major champion Simon Whitlock from 2-0 down, 5-4 and goes up to number 6 in the world and joins the elite of world darts.
Whitlock missed darts to break after a good start and Gurney held throw in the first leg. He missed multiple attempts to get off in the next leg and Gurney broke the throw to take a 2-0 lead.
Whitlock grabbed his first leg taking out 41 to be 2-1 behind. He levelled with a 52 checkout but Gurney had the throw for the set. Both men threw poor in the decider both missing set darts and Whitlock came back from 2 down to take the first set.
Whitlock missed darts on his throw and Gurney smashed in a 156 checkout to lead in set two. Whitlock levelled up after a 180 on D6 to break. Whitlock missed more darts to take a lead and Gurney hit D10 to go one away from the set.
Whitlock though broke the throw to prevent Gurney to win the set. He hit the tricky double 9 to win the second set. Gurney started off by hitting a 110 checkout in set 3 and Whitlock then held his throw for a level game. Gurney smashed in a 126 to break and win the set.
Whitlock had a poor start to the 4th set and underlined this by hitting T20 before going inside on D9 which allowed Gurney to break. Gurney missed darts but so did Whitlock for a 110 outset and Gurney pinned D16. A beautiful unorthodox 70 outshot from Whitlock stopped the rot.
'The Wizard' put pressure on with a 180 but a 95 checkout on D16 won Gurney the set and pulled it back to 2-2.
In the 5th set, Whitlock started proceedings off by breaking throw but Gurney broke straight back with a ruthless 110 checkout with Whitlock waiting on a finish. He hit another ton plus hitting a 104 checkout to hold his throw. Whitlock levelled up on D16 to force a decider in the set. Gurney poached the set with Whitlock missing two at D10.
Whitlock started set 6 by hitting D10 to lead. He followed it up with a D2 after multiple darts missed by both players to go within 1. Whitlock fluffed his lines leaving D18 which he missed which allowed Gurney to serve up a 100 checkout to break. A D10 from Gurney put it into a decider. A 98 checkout put it to 3-3 from Whitlock.
Gurney went back in front hitting a 77 checkout on D10. Whitlock levelled on D18. A poor leg from Whitlock despite him having darts to win it allowed Gurney to hold hitting a 40 checkout. 'The Wizard' once again sent it to a decider hitting D10.
He hit a 32 checkout on D8 to lead 4-3 in sets. Gurney came back and broke the throw with a 68 checkout with Whitlock almost throwing it away. Whitlock hit a 80 checkout to break back. Gurney hit a 32 checkout to break in a leg where Simon only pressured at the end.
He hit a 96 checkout to win the set 3-1 and send it to a decider where Gurney throws first. Whitlock had a poor first leg and Gurney took the lead on D8. A bull finish of 112 from Whitlock out of nowhere made it 1-1. A 112 from Gurney made it 2-1 and he went 1 away. A 40 checkout on D10 after Simon's arm went to sleep gave Gurney the biggest win of his career.
