Seventh seed De Vos was challenged by Derk Telnekes, but prevailed 3-1. That was after women's second seed de Graaf completed a 'double bagel' 2-0 thrashing of Paula Jacklin.
In the first of the two games, de Graaf won all six legs and allowed Jacklin just four darts at a double. The Dutch thrower averaged 89.17 with her first nine darts, but a doubles success rate of just over one in four brought the overall average down to 72.73.
The first set was swiftly wrapped up by de Graaf, who then stepped it up in set two. A 180 and a 100 checkout helped her break down 60-year-old Jacklin, who had no response. De Graaf moves on to the quarter-finals, where Trina Gulliver lies in wait.
Belgian star de Vos got off to the perfect start, averaging 99.16 in the first set and notching up two 180s. Telnekes, though, also managed two maximums, and took the set all the way. In the second set, another five-leg affair, it was the Dutch qualifier who took the spoils.
An untimely miscount and some nervy doubles from Telnekes then caused a drop in standard. But de Vos crucially improved on his double-hitting to edge ahead, and hold the youngster off in the fourth set. An 87 average, with seven maximums and a 130 checkout to boot, stands de Vos in good stead for the second round.
