This scoreline didn’t paint the full story with ‘Double Dekker’ being pushed for the most part including being smashed in the first set.
This set included a 107 average from Ashton and although she couldn’t keep this up, she dispelled the doubters in a brilliant performance. Dekker moves on though and he will play Mervyn King.
Ashton started off proceedings with a brilliant 110 checkout in what was a fifteen darter for the Lancashire Rose. She went two up with another fifteen dart leg hitting double five to go within one of taking the first set. It was the first set for Ashton who smashed in a 121 checkout to send the Alexandra Palace crowd into raptures.
Dekker started to hit trebles with more regularity and this allowed him to break the throw of Ashton. She had darts to break back but couldn’t capitalize and this allowed the Dutchman to hold throw. He leveled the match with a clean sweep of his own from there in a race to three.
In the next set, Dekker went two-nil up and seemingly on his way to two consecutive sets, Ashton though had other other ideas smashing in D16 first time. She then continued her path back into the match leveling the set up at two-all. It went to a tense deciding leg with Dekker hitting a crucial 177 followed by eventually hitting double 20 to go two-one up in sets.
First blood in the next set went to the current Lakeside ladies champion who hit a 58 checkout to go one-nil up. Dekker hit a timely 101 checkout in the next leg with Ashton sitting on 76 to tie the match up. He continued his march towards victory hitting a thirteen darter to go within one. ‘Double Dekker’ completed the victory pinning double eight to survive a real scare.
