Harris who has been in terrific form this year on the Challenge Tour despite nerves coming into play looked potentially dangerous ahead of facing Jamie Lewis on Friday afternoon.
An 88 average showed these nerves but it was also three 180’s with a high checkout of 104 as ‘Code Star’ came through.
Schindler broke the throw of Harris to start the match off hitting a brilliant 82 checkout (Bull, Double 16).
This did not throw the New Zealand ace off though as he broke back immediately. It was after Schindler missing a 164 checkout on the bull.
Harris then hit the front pinning double 16 for a 2-1 lead in the opening set. He hit the first 180 of the match and then claimed the first set with his third consecutive leg.
‘The Wall’ came back from the break with a strong hold of throw hitting double 20. Harris held throw with an awkward double two but missed darts to break and this allowed the German to hold throw and go to within one of his first set.
Schindler went on to take the set to leave the tie finely poised after a classy 95 checkout from the World Youth finalist.
‘Code Star’ claimed a hold of throw in a nervy first leg when they returned from the break. He continued with a 57 finish to break throw.
Harris then clean sweeped the set to go one set away from Round Two.
In the third set though, the New Zealander messed up when he was about to go one away giving Schindler a lifeline.
This was the catalyst the German needed with back to back ton plus scores to win the set 3-1. In the deciding set, both players held their throws in the opening two legs.
Harris pinned a classy 85 finish to go within one from there. He completed the job by smashing in a 104 checkout to slay the young German.
