Dobey sees off Van der Voort in thrilling opening clash to begin Day 11 at PDC World Darts Championship

Chris Dobey started proceedings on Day 11 of the PDC World Darts Championship with a thrilling win over Vincent van der Voort. Dobey beforehand had not lost a set but in this match, it was very close and went to a final set.

He averaged 98 in setting up a Last 16 tie with Gary Anderson after Christmas someone who has been very instrumental to the career of 'Hollywood'. Dobey started proceedings losing the first leg but from there asserting his authority on the tie. He claimed the set 3-1 with a 102 average. Both players started Van der Voort's leg on throw brilliantly with them both hitting maximums to start proceedings. 'The Dutch Destroyer' deflected it into a five when a potential nine dart attempt beckoned but he still took the leg pinning double 20. Van der Voort rattled Dobey by hitting a 180 to claim the set back after breaking the throw of 'Hollywood' meaning the game was finely poised at one-all going into the second break. Dobey rattled off an 11 darter to hold throw and following that he broke the throw of Van der Voort after a nervy end to the leg. The Bedlington ace completed the clean sweep putting him in a prime position. He couldn't get rid of the Dutchman with him pinning 87 on the bull underlying that to break throw. Dobey himself pulled it back to two-all but Van der Voort claimed the set still with a 177 in a 13 darter sealing the deal. Van der Voort stole the first leg of the next set with Dobey missing double 20 for a 116 finish before an 88 finish gave VvDV the early break. He continued this pinning 104 to go two up as he looked to gain the lead in sets and he completed a clean sweep as he averaged 110 in the set. Dobey didn't give up breaking the throw of Van der Voort in the early going of set six. He then set up a deciding set in this thriller reeling off three straight legs in doing so. He claimed the opening leg but Vincent stopped the rot with his biggest finishing of 106 to go alongside the 104 hit previously. A comfortable hold followed with Dobey going one away from the victory.
