Kyle Anderson claimed a semi-final spot at a PDC televised event for the second time with a 10-7 win over a battling Mensur Suljovic in the European Championship quarter-final.
The pair did not take long to settle. Suljovic kicked off with a 14-darter, but Anderson responded with an 11-dart leg in which the pair exchanged 140s before the Aussie powered in the first 180 of the tie. The Auckland Darts Masters champion then kept his nerve to take out 83 on the bull and claim the first break of throw.
Slack darts on the double from the both allowed Anderson to extend his lead, but Suljovic was undeterred, and won the fifth leg under little pressure to reduce the deficit. The second session saw few opportunities to break throw, but Anderson needed an excellent 100 checkout to prevent Suljovic from finding a break of his own. The Original then piled on the pressure in the ninth leg, kicking off with five perfect darts before checking out 25 to claim a second break and a 6-3 lead.
While Suljovic cut a frustrated figure on the Hasselt stage, the Champions League winner was still able to find five trebles with his first six darts in the next leg, and then check out 95 to get his first break and reduce Anderson’s lead to two legs at the end of the second session. It was exactly what the big Austrian needed, and his class shone through as two straight legs won meant the scores were level after 12 legs.
Anderson needed a response, and provided just that; a superb 12-dart leg, culminating in a 130 checkout, provided the break back. The Australian followed that up with another 180 and a 120 finish, leaving him within grasp of victory. Suljovic, a finalist last year, threatened briefly to fight back, but Anderson nailed the double 2 to seal a semi-final meeting with three-time European Championship winner Michael van Gerwen.

- I dont like individuals or crowds trying to put any player off when they are trying to check out, how anyone can think its okay for the crowd to whistle or shout as someone is throwing for a double is beyond me but it does seem to have become part and parcel of the modern game. - It happens. Remember, anyone who has watched German and Dutch players in matches - their respective countries will have seen/heard just as bad jeering (if not worse). - Was watching an old World Masters final the other day between Eric Bristow and John Lowe, the crowd respect for both players on throw was first class, not a sound. You can imagine now the idiots who were whistling on De Deckers throw proudly boasting about it on social media. I blame the PDC to a certain extent though doubt they really care as they win regardless of which player wins or loses.Mysstree16-11-2024
