There are a fair few talking points among the fixtures on Saturday evening at the German Darts Open.

We begin with Ted Evetts, whose burgeoning promise is now starting to turn into a knack for top quality European showings. His semi-literal giant killing of darting behemoth Vincent Kamphuis set off his German Darts Open 2019 campaign in style. Between him and the third round is Dave Chisnall - SuperTed is unlikely to be afraid of that prospect. Nathan Aspinall is another growing thrower who put on a show on Friday. A 6-1 thrashing of Dennis Nilsson means the UK Open champion is in fine fettle. Jonny Clayton will be looking to stop him in his tracks. That's followed by Rob Cross facing up to a tricky task in the form of dealing with Chris Dobey. Peter Wright and Steve Lennon last met in Dublin. There, Snakebite denied the Irishman a chance at Premier League Darts glory in front of his home support. That can't go unpunished. Revenge is on the bill for Lennon here.

Benelux battle

That's followed by the defending champion, Max Hopp. He will once again have the Saarbrucken faithful noisily supporting him. But it's hard to imagine John Henderson, who has seen it all in his time, being too fazed. The Highlander might be too popular to get the full treatment.
Mensur Suljovic plays Mickey Mansell in the sixth game, before a clash of world champions. Michael van Gerwen, the senior top dog, takes on reigning world youth champion Dimitri van den Bergh.
The pair are in a decidedly Benelux corner of the draw. The winner of that one takes on the man who prevails from an all-Dutch affair. Raymond van Barneveld, plucking darts from a drawer and using them to dismantle Gabriel Clemens, is feeling good. Jermaine Wattimena wants his spot on the World Cup of Darts team, and he wants his third round place too. The contrast between the languid Barney and rapid-fire Wattimena should make this an interesting watch.
