Friday afternoon's session features no fewer than 11 Brits. Two meet in Saarbrucken at the start of the session. James Richardson and Wayne Jones go head-to-head for the right to meet Adrian Lewis on Saturday. Then follows Steve West, who was a seed at the German Darts Open two years ago. He doesn't have that advantage this time, and must take on Mickey Mansell for a spot in round two.
Jamie Hughes is back for another tilt in Europe; he meets Brendan Dolan, whose early season form has not mirrored the impressive run mounted at the
PDC World Championship. The fourth tie has a decidedly European flavour. Karsten Koch is the first home nation qualifier to take to the stage in this year's German Darts Open. He goes up against the Dutchman Vincent van der Meer. Brüggen native Koch makes his
European Tour debut here.
In the fifth tie, Mike de Decker faces David Pallett. Then rising star Luke Humphries takes on the Czech ace Pavel Jirkal. The bartender will be hoping to serve up a surprising defeat when he meets the World Championship quarter-finalist.
Two players of world class pedigree contest the penultimate match. Kirk Shepherd, a former world finalist, is up against a bona fide world champion in Steve Beaton. The winner of this meeting faces a tasty clash with Gerwyn Price.
In the final match, Jerry Hendriks will be hoping not to
feel like a fish on the stage against Englishman James Wilson.
