Glen Durrant to meet Scott Waites in Lakeside semis after thrilling win

Like Lakeside semis after thrilling win">Scott Waites, the man he will meet in the semi-finals, Durrant recovered from 4-1 down to seal an incredible victory. Duzza managed a tournament-high average of 100.92 to complete a win that will have serious ramifications for his future in darts.
The world champion opened the match in fine fashion, hitting the bullseye for a 132 checkout and a 12-darter. Both averaged north of a ton in the first set, but Williams, who himself opened his account with a 12-darter edged it in the fifth set. The young Welshman then took the game to the top seed, winning the second set in four legs to go 2-0 up. Durrant came back into the tie, but some significant missed doubles allowed Williams to regain a two-set advantage.
Williams checked out 121 in the fifth set, his highest checkout of the match, to force another decider. Again, it was the younger of the pair who prevailed. At 4-1 down, Durrant faced the same uphill battle as Waites did against Andy Baetens. If anything, his comeback was even more spectacular than the two-time world champion's.
Durrant averaged a stunning 118.66 in the sixth set, going out in 11, 15 and then 12 darts. During the lightning-fast sixth set, the Middlesbrough ace fired in an excellent 158 checkout. More of the same came in the seventh set. Duzza, thanks to winning eight legs in a row, had reduced the deficit to one. The eighth set was even more incredible. A 13-darter and a 15-darter, separated by Williams finally claiming a leg, was followed by a 116 checkout to seal a 12-darter and parity.
The final set could only go one way. A shattered Williams had lost the scoring power that saw him clear in the early stages. Even when on 41 after nine darts, the Welshman could not take a leg off the rampant champion. Durrant polished the tie off quickly with a 3-0 win in the final set. Having won 12 of the last 13 legs, the favourite to take the Lakeside crown achieved the first ton-plus average of the 2018 tournament. Next, he faces Waites in a mammoth semi-final. After that, and potentially the final, he will be back next year to go for the title again - if he is to be believed.
