The two strongest players it could be said from both teams kicked it off with Paul Lim facing Seigo Asada in a potentially thrilling clash. It lived up to this billing early on with Lim smashing in a 160 checkout to make it 2-2 in the early going.
From there, 'The Singapore Slinger' went one away from the victory and the first point on the board for Singapore but Asada hit a 14 darter on double 12 to show he wasn't out of it and to force a decider.
It was 'The Ninja' who came through it to put the pressure on Harith against an experienced Haruki Muramatsu in the second tie.
Haruki went into the lead early on at 2-1 ahead and similar to Lim in the last tie he went one away from the victory.
Harith came back though to 3-2 down but couldn't force a decider between the pair and it is Japan who move through as a result.
