Mervyn King claimed a first title in four years and a first Players Championship in seven as he defeated James Wade in the final of the first in the double header in Barnsley.
King said he was really happy to claim the win and that it is a massive day for him as he denies Wade in his second Players Championship final of the season. Despite averaging a brilliant 105, he said that there is a bit more left in the tank but for him he is still happy to win. “It’s a massive day for me, I’m really happy with that result,” said King, who claimed his first title since Sindelfingen in 2014. “James is a fantastic player and a great friend who gives me a lot of advice in life and darts, so I knew I would have to play well to beat him. “I upped my level in every game I played today, which was pleasing. There’s a bit more left in the tank but I’m really happy with how today went.”
