Lewis after squeezing through against Wilson: “It’s a relief to get through and hopefully I can push on now”

Adrian Lewis wasn’t convincing in seeing off James Wilson on Saturday night at the World Matchplay but mounted a brilliant comeback to see off Lethal Biscuit and show some of his form he has shown all year is there.
Lewis spoke afterwards and admitted nerves played a factor due to him not playing on TV in a long time but for him it’s a relief to get through and he wants to push on at this year’s World Matchplay.
"I felt a bit nervous tonight because I've not played on TV for seven months," said Lewis.
"When I was 7-3 down I knew I had to find something and I did that. James was fantastic in the first ten legs, I didn't quite have my rhythm at times but I sped up towards the end and got the job done.
"I've been feeling the pressure in first round games all year so it's a relief to get through and hopefully I can push on now."

- I agree. There needs to be a points system and preferably just a rolling one year. World Championship should earn the most points though it can be argued that the current qualification system does see a fair few players qualify from regional country qualifiers who would struggle to hold down a place on the Pro Tour. If prize money won is going to remain as the determining factor for ranking then the World Championship should just consist of the 128 Tour Card Holders. Another option would be to take the World Championship out of the rankings and have it as the stand alone pinnacle that you qualify for by winning certain tournaments or your ranking position, sort of like a GSOD+.Mysstree05-04-2025
