The Lancashire Rose needed just one break of throw to round off the first set. Ashton visited the madhouse in the fourth leg, but struck double one to go 1-0 up. Sherrock was hamstrung by her 18 per cent success rate on the doubles, and Ashton took advantage.
The second set was a much closer affair. Ashton twice hit the wrong double trying to seal the win in the fifth set. But Sherrock could not take her chance, missing double ten for a 78 checkout. The Lancashire Rose finally rounded off victory against the woman she beat in the 2015 final.
The defending champion has not dropped a single set since 2016. She will take on Deta Hedman in a massive semi-final next.
